Ask anybody in River Ridge or Harahan where to get a good sandwich and you'll get an opinion, maybe two. Around here a po-boy and a muffuletta aren't just lunch. They're how we settle arguments, feed a crowd, and reward ourselves after a long week. At Kelley's Village Inn on Jefferson Highway, both are front and center on the menu, so we put together a little guide for newcomers and longtime fans alike.
Po-Boys: Pick Your Filling
Every po-boy on our menu comes as a 10-inch sandwich, and the hardest part is choosing. Here's what's on the board:
Seafood: shrimp, oyster, and fish
Classics: roast beef, ham, turkey, and meatball
Sausage: smoked sausage and hot sausage
Chicken: grilled chicken breast, fried chicken breast, and chicken Parmesan
Want cheese? Add Swiss, American or mozzarella to any of them. If you're after fresh seafood in Jefferson Parish, start with the shrimp or oyster po-boy. Every po-boy comes fully dressed.
The Original Muffuletta
Our Original Muffuletta is stacked with ham, salami and melted mozzarella, then topped with our homemade olive salad. You can get a half for yourself or a whole one to share (or not; we won't tell). That olive salad is the same one that tops our VIP Italian Salad, so if you love it on the sandwich, you'll know where else to find it.
Here's the Twist: Any Po-Boy, Muffuletta Style
This is the part a lot of first-timers miss. Every filling on our po-boy list can also be ordered as a half or whole muffuletta. That means a shrimp muffuletta, an oyster muffuletta, a meatball muffuletta, a hot sausage muffuletta. Pick the filling you love and choose the bread that fits your appetite.
The Seafood Muffuletta (and One Big Burger)
If you can't decide between seafood, go with the Seafood Muffuletta, loaded with fish, oysters and shrimp. It's one of the most River Ridge things you can eat in a single sitting.
And for the truly hungry, there's The Village People: four 8 oz. Black Angus patties on a whole muffuletta with cheese, smoked applewood bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayo, onions and pickles, served with onion rings and fries. Bring friends. Seriously.
